Star Athlete Endorses…Drinking Water!

Posted & filed under Fluoride in the News.

When was the last time you saw an athlete like basketball’s Stephen Curry choose to endorse something as healthful as drinking water? On December 17, 2015, Brita®, which makes water filtration products, announced a three-year deal with Steph Curry to promote not only Brita® but the health benefits of drinking water. Importantly, if your tap water is fluoridated, Brita® products preserve this essential element for preventing tooth decay.

Brita® has aligned itself with Michelle Obama’s Drink Up campaign and cites the journal Pediatrics in noting that 93% of beverages endorsed by top athletes got “100% of their calories from added sugar.” The Partnership for a Healthier America and Let’s Move initiatives to eliminate childhood obesity are strong advocates for replacing sugar sweetened beverages with drinking water.

Health advocates share the knowledge that everyone – especially kids – benefits from drinking water. Whether to replace empty calories, save money, reduce plastic bottles in the environment, or to help strengthen teeth, drinking tap water is good for us all. Thanks to Stephen Curry for pointing that out.
