Fort Smith, Arkansas Receives Grant to Begin Fluoridation

Posted & filed under Communities Supporting Fluoride.

The city of Fort Smith has received a $1.8 million grant from the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation to fund fluoridation equipment and storage facilities so that the city can begin to fluoridate the community’s water. Fort Smith is currently the largest city in Arkansas without fluoridated water. The Arkansas Department of Health notes that fluoridated water “has repeatedly been shown to be a safe, inexpensive and an extremely effective method of preventing tooth decay” and that “Because community water fluoridation benefits everyone in the community regardless of age and socio-economic status, fluoridation provides protection against tooth decay in populations with limited access to prevention services.”
