PolitiFact: Anti-Fluoride Claim Is “False”

Truth - ExitFor the 4th time, the fact-checkers at PolitiFact have explored claims made by anti-fluoride activists. And for the 4th time, PolitiFact has found their assertions to be false or deceptive. This time, the assertion was made by an anti-fluoride group in Portland, Oregon.

The group called Clean Water Portland tried to spin the city’s rate of tooth decay in a way that made dental problems among children look less severe than they are. PolitiFact deserves credit for calling out proponents for trying to compare apples and oranges. The newspaper fact-checkers cited experts who pointed out that the anti-fluoride group was comparing county data with state data. Not only that, but the cavity-related data were from different years.
